10 Ways To Fit Running Into Your Lifestyle

Running will help you live a healthier lifestlye. Even with the demands of career, family, and personal time you can still fit it into your schedule.

With the help of some time management anyone can fit a quick run into their already hectic lifestyle. All you have to do is set a schedule and stick to it. Otherwise, running turns into the gym membership you never use and the exercise machine that is now used as a drying rack for clothes.

If you are a morning person you may already be getting up early to read the paper and have a cup of coffee before you head out to work. Set your alarm for fifteen minutes earlier and go for a run. If you need to, only read one section of the paper and drink half a cup of coffee. The run will wake you up and give you that extra energy you usually get from the coffee. Take the paper and an apple with you and finish it during a break time or lunch.

Ok, so you are not a morning person and you would only push the snooze button a few extra times if you set your alarm for fifteen minutes earlier. Have you ever considered running on your lunch break? Three days a week use a half an hour of your lunch break to run and get cleaned up. Pack a bag with enough running clothes for the entire week. That way you don't forget to take your clothes. Leave your shoes under your desk and take a plastic bag to put your dirty stuff in to take home.

I know, you don't have an hour for lunch and you are not showering in the company locker room. That leaves you with the few precious hours between the time you get home and the time you go to bed.

If you get home early enough you could run then. Before you do anything else, after work go for a run. Take this time to clear your mind and unwind from the day. Make a habit of doing it then and it will just become part of your routine.

Instead of sitting down in front of the TV for your nightly three hour marathon, pick one show that you really only watch because you are already sitting down or because there is nothing else on. During that time go for your run. You will soon find out that you do not even miss that show.

Make running and exercise a family activity. If you have small children try a jogging stroller. For children that are older introduce them to the sport or get them a bike and they can ride while you run. If your kids are old enough leave them at home and make running an activity you do with your spouse.

Play a sport. Running does not have to take place in straight line or around a track. Soccer and basketball are two sports where you spend the majority of the time running. They are both sports that can be played year-round inside.

Running is also not something you have to do in record time. If you would rather jog or walk quickly take your dog with you. You both need the exercise. Running at fast speeds for long distances is not good for dogs but a short jog is ok.

If you are really serious aboutrunning join a gym that has a track. This way you can run no matter what the weather conditions are. You will also be surrounded by other people working out. That can be a great motivator.

Don't overextend yourself. Decide on a certain number a days to run and stick to it. Start slowly at first. Run three days and take four off. You can build up to running daily if that is your goal.
