How to Access Rim Telenav on My Blackberry 8310

By Chris Weiss

  • Overview

One of the features that really separated the Blackberry Curve 8310 from former models was GPS navigation from TeleNav, a top name in GPS navigation. Perhaps you're glad to have the feature, but you're having trouble figuring out how to navigate your way around town. Proceed through the following steps, and your Blackberry 8310 phone will be a handy navigator, too.
  • Downloading and Activating the TeleNav Application

  • Step 1

Sign up for a TeleNav subscription. Note that there is an additional monthly charge for the service. You may also need to upgrade your data plan to avoid incurring data overages. The unlimited data plan is recommended by AT&T. If you didn't sign up when you first activated your subscription, call 1-800 331-0500 to subscribe. Follow the prompt to "Add Services."
  • Step 2

To activate TeleNav on your Blackberry, select the TeleNav icon on the home page or in the applications folder. Read the Terms and Conditions and enter "I Agree."
  • Step 3

Hit "Download" once the screen loads.
  • Step 4

Hit "Download" again and wait for the application to load. A progress bar will appear so you can track the time left.

  • Step 5

Once the process is finished, you will have access to the TeleNav GPS Navigator application which will provide turn-by-turn voice prompt navigation. It's much like a car navigation system.
  • Using TeleNav for Turn by Turn Directions

    • Step 1

Select the GPS Navigator icon in the "Applications" menu or on your main screen. Hit the "Menu" key for options. You will need a password to log in that will be sent through SMS to your Blackberry. Enter your password and press the track ball.
    • Step 2

Select the "Drive To" option and enter your destination address. Press the track ball again.
    • Step 3

TeleNav will check the address and ask for confirmation. Confirm the address. Press the track ball to generate directions.
    • Step 4

The GPS Navigator will pinpoint your location using GPS satellites and design a route. You can use the application to give you voice directions in your car or on foot.
