Step 1
Disconnect your computer from its power supply and do a complete shutdown. When the computer is shut down, turn it over so the bottom of the laptop is facing up.
-
Step 2
Know that the memory on your laptop is located behind a rectangular panel in the middle of the laptop's base. Unscrew the Phillips screws holding the panel in place and remove it. Set the panel and the screws off to the side. You'll now see the memory chips installed in the computer. You'll see latches on either side of the two memory modules. Move them out, then rotate the modules up 30 degrees; the memory will unlatch. You can then slide the modules out.
-
Step 3
Note the memory amount of each module. Add them together, and you'll have the total memory that was in your memory. Now consult a website that sells memory. I suggest Memorysuppliers.com (see Resources). Simply enter in your laptop information; you'll receive a list of compatible memory modules for the Dell Latitude CPX H500GT. Order your memory. In the meantime, you can replace the existing memory and continue to use the laptop.

Step 4
When you have secured your new memory, add it by repeating the initial steps, then replacing the old memory with the new. Put the panel back on, then power up your computer and enjoy the improved performance.
