Adopting a child is when a couple takes a child who is not theirs and raises them as a member of their family. Some people think adopted children are the same as foster

The caseworker will also make sure the couple can support the child and if you have a healthly marriage.
Becasue of state laws, you can not find out the biological parents of the child you are planning to adopt. Alot of people feel that they should be able to find out who the real parents are. Others feel this should be kept a secret.
From the late 1960's the amount of people adopting children has risen. Sometimes people must wait as long as three to seven years before there is an infant available to adopt. Some people have even paid large sums of money to adopt a child, some being from another country. Its illegal for an unlicensed adoption agency to sell a
child.
Most states don't consider an adoption legal until the child has lived with the family for a certain period of time. Once the child is considered legal, a lawyer will
prepare a formal request that the couple must give to a court. If the court agrees to the request, thats when the adoption become legal.
