Everybody would like to have a wood floor I think. It adds to the value of a home; aesthetically, it makes the room warm and inviting. There are limitations to wood as to where you would put wood in a home. Most of that is determined by the moisture content in the floor, as some woods cannot be put over concrete. They should not be installed below grate in a home. They can be installed on the main level of the home or upstairs but not in the basement area or you might have problems. Although we do have some engineered woods that can installed below grate. But the advantage to wood is that it is definitely going to add value to your home and some of the wood that is out there today is simply stunning. We have got some beautiful wood.
People need to do understand is that the wood actually breathes. It will move, it will shrink and expand according to humidity in the room and it needs to be allowed to acclimate to the room. The humidity levels need to be controlled; they need to be between 35-65% or you will have big problems with wood. Buckling hardwood floors can be corrected by adjusting the humidity in the room. Another downfall of hardwood floors is that in certain parts of the country where it is very dry, they have to add moisture to the air in order keep the wood from drying up.
