Linoleum is a product that is made from linseed oil and flax that's the name linoleum. It's a thick and very durable product. It is typically sold in either tiles or six-foot sheets. It is considered an environmentally friendly product because it is made from natural resins that are biodegradable. Back in the day, your grandmother might have had a linoleum floor; but typically in residential situations you don't see that much linoleum. There is a bit of resurgence in the interest in linoleum here in the last couple of years, but typically linoleum is used in commercial situations. There are some design capabilities with linoleum that will allow it to be trimmed out and different kinds of designs can be created in the floor using linoleum. The downside of linoleum is that it has to be waxed and polished on a regular basis. It's not something that you can mop and it looks new again. You might mop it to clean up a spill or something but over a course of a week or a few weeks its going to have to be polished and wiped. So, it's a fairly maintenance intensive product.
