We generally allow everybody to bring their own alcohol but we have a zero tolerance for anybody under 21. We also have a zero tolerance for any guest that becomes inebriated and a safety risk. We tell people that we will walk right up to the host or hostess and tell them to keep that guy in control or we are going to bring the boat back to the dock with no refund. When we say that, all of a sudden, it changes dramatically and they will have that guy drinking water because they don't want to ruin the cruise for everybody else. I think that's probably typical for most chartered firms. They don't want anybody falling especially falling overboard. Although we all practice our "man overboard drills" all the time, we've never had to use one. I want to keep it that way. I also learned in my first year that kegs of beer do not work. I can rationally explain it to the guest. Let's say you called me and you want to bring a keg, 9 times out of 10 you are going to have a lot of left-over beer in the keg and it is all wasted. Whereas, if you brought too many cases of beer, you can still re-use that anytime you want. Kegs also create a mess because as you know, they drip. A lot of ice is needed to keep them cool. They usually foam for a long time and it is just a waste of time. We prefer obviously cans because it is lighter to clean up but if people want to bring bottled beer, that's fine. The other thing that I don't tolerate is any kind of shooters or shots. So, that's my only two rules when people ask about alcohol; no kegs and no shooters.

It gets dangerous and we just don't do that. Every boat will go through a safety briefing explaining where the life jackets are, where fire extinguishers are, and how to use the restroom.
