When it's time for your baby to begin to eat solid food, there are many questions that parents have. But the main one usually is: "What foods should my baby start with?" Although anything from pizza to steak can be mashed in a blender, it is important to give your baby the proper nutritious foods that are appropriate for his age.
To start, you will introduce one or two foods at a time per week. When the baby seems to be tolerating it, you can introduce a new food. The following list of foods are usually enjoyed and tolerated well by almost all young babies.
RICE CEREAL
BARLEY CEREAL -These can be mixed with
OAT CEREAL breast milk or formula.
UNSWEETENED YOGURT
SQUASH
GREEN BEANS
SWEET POTATO
PEAS
CARROTS
AVOCADO
APPLESAUCE -Get your baby to eat
BANANAS cereal, yogurt and
PEACHES vegetables before
PEARS introducing these sweet
fruits.
Around seven to eight months you can introduce these meats.
BEEF
CHICKEN
TURKEY
LAMB
If you are going to make your own baby food, the texture of these foods should be the consistency of think cream. As your baby gets older, the texture can get progressively thicker.
Start feeding your baby half a teaspoon and work your way up to two teaspoons or more once your baby becomes a more experienced eater.
By making the transition to solid food a slow and progressive one, you are actually decreasing your baby's chances of developing allergies to foods and making breakfast, lunch and dinnertime a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
