CHILD-PACs (Children's Hands-on Integrated Learning Discoveries--Parents As Co-partners) are beneficial to both parents and children in that they entertain as well as educate both parents and children. Children learn useful information about the world around them, as well as observational skills they will use later in life. Parents learn to communicate with their children at an early age so that communication lines will be open at later stages in the child's life.
The Bathtime Surprise CHILD-PAC is designed to make bathtime fun and educational.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Children's books about bathtime
Soap Crayons
Different sized cups
Shape sponges
Washcloth
Assorted bath toys
Activity 1:
Try this "hide and seek" actitivy to help your child understand object permanence--that a toy still exists even when he/she can't see it. (This is primarily for infants). This will also help your child understand that when you leave the room, you will be back!
--Take a toy and place it in the water in front of your child.
--Cover the toy with a washcloth and ask, "Where is the yellow duck? Where did it go?"
--Remove the washcloth and say, "Here it is! It was hiding under a washcloth!"
--Play this game several times and encourage her to lift the washcloth off the toy.
--If she doesn't understand after the first few times, you can guide her hands to remove the washcloth.
Activity 2:
Before bathtime, read one of the assorted children's books about bathtime to your child. Discuss what the pictures are of and ask your child if he/she knows if you have any of those things in your bathroom.
Activity 3:
Use soap crayons to draw on the tub, remembering that this inspires creativity in your child and that they are easily washable once the child is in the tub.
Activity 4:
While the child is in the tub, give the child different sized cups to pour and fill. This will help the child to understand the different sizes and will make for great fun!
