In the province of British Columbia there are many sparkling lakes, healing hot springs and secluded swimming holes available for your pleasure. With the inclusion of Hot Springs, outdoor swimming in British Columbia can be considered an all season sport.

Scattered along the Sea-to-Sky Highway, which is located twenty minutes north of Vancouver and runs from Horseshoe Bay to Pemberton and beyond, are many crystal clear, inviting lakes and beach front. With the aid of a tourist map and posted highway signs you will be able to find many of the lakes lying hidden from the highway. Some of these lakes and beachfronts offer campsites too. Porteau Cove and Alice Lake are ones where you can usually find a spot to pitch a tent.

Located across the Straight of Georgia on Vancouver Island, Just beyond Nanaimo, is a beautiful beach in the town of Parksville. Amazingly clean, the Parksville beach is teeming with ocean life and when the tide is out you can walk for miles before you reach the ocean. This is a great place to dig for clams or show your children the many wonders of ocean life, such as crabs, shells, and other crustaceans.

As you head further north from Vancouver, in the Fraser Valley region you must stop in at Harrison Hot Springs for a soak in natural spring water. Believed to be healing, Harrison Hot Springs is a great choice for a peaceful retreat after a day of skiing or hiking. Also located in the Fraser Valley are such popular spots as Cultus Lake, Stave Lake and Rolly Lake.

Heading North into the Interior of BC, you can find such beautiful swimming holes as Logan Lake, which is located just outside of Kamloops and in the Shuswap is a very popular lake fittingly called Shuswap Lake. This is not only a great place for swimming but you can also rent a houseboat and go fishing. (Check with local regulations) Going further North, just south of Houston, BC is a lovely group of lakes know as Parrot Lake and surrounding regions. A delightful find North of chilly Fort Nelson, about 1 hour south of the Yukon boarder is the Liard Hot Springs. Three natural Hot Spring pools are just a short stroll from the parking lot, along wooden planks that wind expertly through the muskeg marsh.

These are just a few examples of the many beautiful lakes and swimmer's paradises that lay within the province of British Columbia. With a detailed map of British Columbia you can seek out many more lakes and beaches not mentioned here. May you take it upon yourself to find some beautiful adventures of your own. When you do, you will be sharing with your friends and family some of the most amazing natural water bodies in the world.
