A healthy cat can be a happy, loving addition to your household. Its playfulness and curiosity can give you and your family hours of fun and entertainment. And, research has shown that petting a cat can lower your levels of stress.
In order to keep your feline friend happy and free from illnesses, there are some things you need to know and do. Cats can't tell us when they feel sick,so it's up to us to keep an eye on their health. The most important thing you need to do is to have your cat vaccinated. Cat vaccinations help to protect your cat against such diseases as feline leukemia, rabies, and feline distemper.
Even though you cat cannot tell you verbally, you can know when it is feeling ill by watching for changes in its usual habits. These changes might include increased or decreased appetitite, increased or decreased thirst, excessive urination, diarrhea, excessive coughing, or sneezing, and lack of vim and vigor.
A cat needs a well-balanced diet every day as well as fresh, clean water to drink. Milk is a good food for kittens, or can be used as a treat for adult cats, but it does not provide all of the vitamins and minerals that your cat needs to stay healthy. Whether you feed your cat dry or canned food is a decision you and your feline freind must make. Both types of food offer many brands of quality cat food you can buy for your pet.
Because your cat will spend most of its sleeping. if your cat stays indoors, you will need to provide a comfortable spot way from high traffic areas. A cat bed is an ideal, inexpensive purhcase to make. Be sure to provide plenty of interesting toys to keep your cat occupied when it is awake and in a playful mood. Another thing to consider, because of your cat's unquenchable curiosity, is that you need to keep attic doors, basement doors, etc. closed so tht your cat cannot wander into dangerous territories.
Cats are relatively easy to take careof as they do daily things for themselves. They are normally fastidious about their fur and spend countless hours licking and cleaning themselves. Even so, it's a good idea to brush your cat, especially if it is one of the long-haired breed, in order to help keep them clean and free from loose fur.
