Planning your child's birthday party really can be one of the simplest things you do. And the joy it brings your children will be memories to last their lifetime.
First, determine who you want to invite to your child's birthday party. Depending on his or her age, there only may be one or two friends or there could be as many as a dozen. Think of kids your child gets along well with and avoid anyone who might be a disturbance to the party, unless it is your child's closest friend and then just keeping close supervision on a rowdy youngster will be in order.
Once you have your list, think of the theme you want for the party. Often times a current movie by Disney is a hit with young children. Usually, those themes have accompanying party supplies sold at retail outlets, so furnishing the party is made easier this way. If a particular theme of dinosaurs or cars is what you want, it can also be simple enough to find party supplies at party stores and often at lower rates than current movie hits.
Now that you have more ideas, it is time to consider party favors and games. Pin-the-tail on the donkey is a classic and a great game for kids of all ages. It can be made relatively inexpensively or bought at discount or party stores as well. Then, considering the ages of the children think of some prizes for them. Sometimes party favors are sold in packs of four or more if you want to save money, or purchasing $1 items for each child works well for older children who probably won't be as entertained with tiny toys. Older children also do well with traditional gifts like small notebooks and pens and such.
Pick the time and day for the party too. Your child's actual birthday may not be the best time, so a weekend might pose a better prospect. Think of the children you are inviting and what their schedules are like with their own family and go from there. Probably not everyone will be able to come so just make the best choice possible.
Then, there is the cake. If you don't make your own, call the bakery or retail store and ask if they have premade designs for children's cakes and see how many people each size cake serves. These cakes are usually fairly expensive so this will depend on your budget.
Think of gifts your child might like as well, as sometimes parents may call and ask what your child would like or needs for a gift. Be sure to give a variety of answers in case more than one family calls you.
And last, think seriously about the location of the party. Parks can be good spots for large groups of children and your own home may be suited well for a small party. Just keep in mind ages of children and safety and then have fun!
