There’s a lot out there via cosmetics and fragrances; even a lot that you don’t know about. So, how do you go about choosing a fragrance that you love, which suits your personality perfectly? You have to ask yourself: What am I all about?

Perfume is a large market that is booming and popular. Perfume may be bought at drugstores, department stores and pharmacies; other ways of purchasing perfume may be at parties, through catalogs/mail order and also through some clothing stores. Often, it is expensive, if it’s a designer name that you’re looking for. Other times, you can get away with buying a really great scent at a very reasonable price.

The best and ultimate way to find your favorite fragrance is very simple: When you smell a fragrance on someone else that you love, do not hesitate to ask them! Otherwise, you would have lost your chance at finding that scent, which you will probably never smell exactly as you just did ever again. So, it’s a good habit to always make a point of asking “What is that perfume you’re wearing? It’s very pretty,” when you “sense” your favorite “scent”!

Or, if you’d like, take a trip to your local cosmetic store or large department store (such as Macy’s) and try some on with the testers that are available. Also, the amount of money that you can afford to spend will also dictate exactly where you’ll be purchasing your new fragrance. If you want to spend under $20-$25, I would suggest going to a cosmetic store (discount) which will save you more than a few bucks, especially if the perfume you like is among the sale batch.

If you can afford to spend from $25-$50, then you can probably afford to make a stop at Macy’s or Sterns. These types of stores will almost always have the latest and greatest perfume that you see all over advertisements, magazines, and television. If you found what you were looking for via a magazine with a swatch of scent in it, then you’re most likely to find it at a similar department store or mall. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you can also catch a good sale or even get your hands on a “gift priced” perfume set, or a perfume that comes with a free gift or special offer of some kind.

Depending upon your personality and preference, perfume tones range from deep, dark, and mysterious (vanillas, sandalwood, and patchoulli), to light, outgoing, airy, and romantic (citrus, rose, gardenia and jasmine). What part of your personality do you want to express and accentuate? What would you like to bring out that isn’t apparent to others most of the time?

It may stand to reason that most brunettes choose deeper, darker fragrances and most blondes and redheads choose the lighter and fresher tones. But, you may be a person who just loves the deepnes of sandalwood with musk and happen to be a blonde! Fragrances are fun to experiment with this way.

Another good way to really tell what fragrance you could live with daily and what you can only live with for ten minutes, is to spray your entire being with the scent and walk around with it for awhile. Be sure to get it in your hair, on your neck and on some part of your clothes. This way, after about 1/2 hour, you will definitely know if the fragrance is for you, after you’ve spent some time with it on and all around you.
