• Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. This building is a palace of sorts. It was built in the early 1900s and was designed to be a large Italian villa. The exterior and interior of the building was built to give the impression that a famous Italian family had lived there. Today this building is a popular place for both locals and visitors to tour. You can stroll through the beautiful gardens or captivate yourself in the beauty that is the museum. The museum and gardens is on South Miami Avenue.
• Miami Museum of Science and Space Transit Planetarium. This museum is actually owned by the family of Smithsonian Institute. It is an extraordinary place where you can learn about science and its history in the Miami area–or even study the stars. This planetarium is a great place for a weekend excursion to watch stars.
• The Barnacle State Historic Site. This is the oldest home in the area, having been built in 1891. Here you can see what life was like before Miami became what it is today. It is a trek through time and allows you to experience life in an entire other era. This historic home is along Main Highway in Coconut Grove.
• Fairchild Tropical Gardens. This garden area is a great place to relax and see some great landscaping. There are some 5,000 different types of plants here over 83 acres of land. This is truly a great place to forget your worries and indulge yourself in nature. If you take a stroll through these gardens, be sure to notice all the different tropical plants that are especially native to southern Florida. This gardens is along Old Cutler Road in Coconut Grove.
