Pregnancy is ideal when it is planned, but many times it is not. Here you will find a better understand of how a baby is conceived and signs that will tell you if you may be pregnant.
We will discuss conception through intercourse only in this article. Sexual intercourse is an expression of love between two people, who have made the decision without pressure to make love. By choosing to have sex, even with protection, you are accepting the fact that a baby may result from your union.
A woman is fertile when she ovulates, or releases an egg from her ovary. This is part of the menstual cycle and usually occurs around 14 days after the first day of your last period. The egg can live for thirty-six hours and the sperm lives for 48 hours. This means that you may not actually conceive on the day you have sex.
Concepetion occurs when a sperm and an egg meet. The sperm are released in an ejaculation and begin swimming towards the egg. The sperm will swim up the Fallopian tubes until it finds an egg. If you are not fertile at that time (no egg in the Fallopian tube) the sperm will die and be expelled by your body. If you are fertile the sperm will break through the egg's membrane and a fetilized cell, or zygote, is formed. The zygote will travel down the Fallopian tube and then implant into the uterus lining. If it implants successfully it is called a blastocyst and begins the process of growing into a fetus.
If you want to increase your chances of conception try determining your fertile period. You can do this by marking a calender or by temperature recordings (temp goes up when you ovulate). Avoid having sex for a few days before your fertile period so that the man has a higher sperm count. Lay down on your back for thirty minutes after intercourse to reduce the number of sperm that swim the wrong way. If after 18 months of unprotected sex, you still have not conceived, it is time to see a fertility specialist.
The biggest indicator that you might be pregnant is a missed period. After you are three to four days late you should take a home pregnancy test. If it is positive you should see a doctor.
Other signs that may indicate you are pregnant are tender, heavy feeling breasts. They may feel a little tingly. You may feel nauseaus at times during the day. Your sense of smell will become highly developed, which does not help one bit with the nausea. You may spend more time in the bathroom with increased urination. Fatigue is also a common indicator of pregnancy.
