If you are going through a divorce, you probably know that this is one of the most devastating times in your life. A divorce can be likened to what is felt when a loved one dies, because it is a death of sorts, the death of marriage. In grieving we must go through the many steps that those who are grieving death go through including denial, anger, depression, etc. If the feelings become too much for you to handle on your own, get in touch with a counselor as soon as possible. There are many things you can do to lift your own spirits and get your life back on the right track.
If you are going to continue to live in the family home, it is important to make the house your own. Re-arrange the furniture, add a few new things such as throw rugs, curtains, a piece or two of furniture. This house is yours, make it the way you want it, for once not worrying whether someone else will like it or not. Giving your home a face lift will give your soul one too and you will gain a sense of power over your life in some small way.
Now that you have made the house your own, it’s time to work on yourself. Get a new hair style and pick up some new clothes. Your ex will be eating his or her heart out and you will be looking and feeling great. Get a new look and just keep looking in the mirror for that affirmation that anyone would be happy to be with you. New looks bring new attitudes and once you are feeling better you can face the challenges ahead with a renewed strength.
Your home, your wardrobe and your hair being things on the outside that affect things inside, there are also things you can do for your insides! Take a class, start volunteering or join a local organization. Keeping yourself busy will do wonders for your morale and give you a sense of independence which you will be needing more than ever. Begin a work-out routine and start eating right and drinking lots of water. When you are doing things for the well-being of your body, you get fulfillment and feel pampered even though you are on your own.
Keep looking forward and things will fall into place eventually. It is sometimes hard to see past what seems like a giant pit of despair and a huge upheaval of your entire life, but you can turn it around and make it into something positive where you will look back and know it was a blessing in disguise.
