Dogs are man's best friend and they can be highly profitable for you. I have been operating a dog kennel for the last few years. When you operate it correctly, you can make a substanial extra income for your family. Here are a few tips I offer to anyone wishing to get started.
Only start out as large as you feel comfortable with. Don't try to get large all at one time. Here is what you need to get started:
1. First you need to get your kennels built. I use 10 foot prefabricated kennel panels. You can build easily with them and add on at anytime. They are also very sturdy, I have never had a dog get out of one.
2. Decide which type of dog you are going to raise. Purchase the best breeding stock you can find. They may be more expensive, but in the long run they will pay off.
3. Feed the best feed you can find at the lowest possible price. This is your number one expense with a dog kennel.
4. Have all your dogs and puppies checked by a veternarian. Make sure they have all of their shots and vaccinations, to ensure their health.
5. Make sure you have a good market for your puppies. Charge a price for them that is competitive but covers your expense.
6. Keep good records on your animals. Make sure all registration papers are complete and up to date.
7. Supplement your kennel operation with other services. Pet sitting and boarding is very profitable.
I hope this article has been helpful to those wishing to start a kennel. You will have fun doing it plus it can be very profitable for you.
