There are a wide variety of places to eat in Gainesville. Seafood is always a staple in Florida, but there are enough ethnic foods to sooth almost anyone's taste. Here is a list of suggested restaurants, underneath their category.

Bar and Grills Cafe Gardens is absolutely the best place to enjoy a warm spring evening and a glass of beer. This cafe offers hamburgers, grilled chicken and fish sandwiches, big salads, and sweet potato fries in a patio setting. It's located on West University Avenue. Barbecue Sonny's Real Pit Bar B-Q is located on Archer Road. The barbecue is awesome barbecue; order it with sweet tea and baked beans for an authentic Southern meal.

Caribbean Emiliano's features a broad selection of Caribbean cuisine, including a tasty tapas bar and rich desserts. Prices range from very reasonable to very expensive. The restaurant is located on First Avenue. Continental The Sovereign is the one restaurant in Gainesville that consistently makes the list of best restaurants in Florida. The beef Wellington is famous, as well as the chef, named Elmo. The restaurant on Southeast 2nd Avenue, is so well known, reservations are a must. Italian The food at Amelia's is generally great. The chef offers several Italian delicacies, in the romantic, intimate setting. Located on Main Street, you'll pay an moderate price for a wonderful meal.

Located on West University the diner serves delicious nouvelle cuisine in a hip setting. Try the pasta with shiitake and shrimp or scallops if offered as a special. Reservations are recommended at Wolfgang's, on Southeast 1st Avenue. Wolfgang's is one of the hipper restaurants in town, with the kind of cooking and decor you'd expect to find in a stylish big city cafe. This place does almost everything right; the menu is quite imaginative, with its wide variety of exotic meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes.
