Central Kalahari Game Reserve
This park takes its name from the majestic Kalahari desert. It is a large game reserve with a huge amount of wildlife including buck, zebra, ostrich, bat-eared fox, elephant, lion, leopard, hyena and the rare wild dog.
Bushmen, known as the San still inhabit the area.
Chobe National Park
This park, measuring 11,600 square kilometres, is situated on Botswana’s northern borders.
The nearest town is Kasane and the famous Victoria Falls is but an hour’s drive away.
Wildlife include elephant, buck, leopard, lion, crocodile, buffalo, hippopotamus and about 80 species of bird.
Gemsbok National Park
This park is 10,000 square kilometres and is almost a mirror image of the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa.
Khutse Game Reserve
This reserve is adjacent to the south side of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and takes its name from the Khutse pan.
Mabuasehube Game Reserve
This park is relatively small and is adjacent on the east side of the Gemsbok National Park.
Makgadikgadi & the Nxai Pan Game Reserves
The Makgadikgadi Pan Reserve is home to the Ntwetwe and Sowa salt pans. This game reserve comes to life during the rainy season when animals and the exotic bird life flock to the pans. The Nxai Pan is to the north of the Makgadikgadi Pan Game Reserve and is grassland interspersed with savanna. The Nxai Pan boasts a large number of giraffe in the area.
Moremi Game Reserve
The Moremi Game Reserve is one of the smaller game reserves in Botswana, but is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful of all the game reserves in Southern Africa. It is situated in the north east of the magical Okavango Delta and boasts botanical treasures, waterways and wildlife. It should be on any tourist’s list of places to visit in Botswana.
Mashatu Game Reserve
The Mashatu Game Reserve houses one of largest number of elephants in the world. It is situated in Eastern Botswana and the area comprises 30 000 hectares.
