Here is a fun craft that I found to be intriguing for young little minds. Not only is it easy to do, but it will also make the children feel like they are contributing something worthwhile for the Christmas tree.
It is called Macaroni Garland. Go to the store, buy a couple of packages of macaroni noodles, and watch the kids have hours of fun.
Items needed:
Macaroni Noodles (noodles have to have holes for kids to hang)
Fishing Line
Food Color
Small bells
Vinegar
Paper or plastic bowls
Directions:
Take noodles and place in several different little paper or plastic bowls.
Mix a ½ teaspoon of vinegar and several drops of food color together. Pour mixture into one of the bowls, stirring so that the noodles are coated.
Repeat procedure using a different color, and mix with another bowl of noodles. Keep repeating procedure until all noodles are coated.
Once noodles have been colored, spread them out on a cookie sheet to dry.
Once they are dry, have children thread them onto fishing line to make garland.
Now, to prevent noodles from coming off of the other end, be sure to tie a bell at the end of the line.
You can pre-cut the line, tie a bell to one end, then have children attach noodles. Once they have filled the line up, attach a bell to the other end.
If some of the noodles stick together, do not try to separate them. Simply have child string them up along with the rest. It makes for interesting design.
