It is that time of year again. You are dragging out the Christmas tree, trying to find the decorations, staring at the tangled lights, wondering why they started blinking and half a strand no longer works, and prying busy little fingers off of precious, breakable ornaments.
When it comes to the Holidays, everybody loves to participate. Especially children. So, why not give them something to do that makes them feel like they are contributing?
Here is a way for them to help decorate that tree by making some Beaded Christmas Garland. And what's more, you can probably find everything you need lying around your house.
Items Needed:
Beads
Fishing Line
Needle
Bells
Directions:
If you look around your house, you can probably find a bunch of old beads, a broken necklace of cheap pearls, or other items with a hole in it that can be strung up. If not, make a trip to the dollar store for a bag of beads, either plastic or wood ones, or a bag of both.
Now go raid your husband's tackle box for some fishing line. If you do not find any there, look around. I am sure he has a rod or two that is broke or a few reels that do not work. Steal the line off of them. He won't miss it.
Now, if the holes in the beads are big enough, the children will not need to use a needle. They can simply thread the line through the holes. Have them make a pattern with the beads, or string up one color at a time or alternate between plastic and wood beads of you have both.
Be sure to tie a bell at the end of the line to keep the beads from falling off.
You can pre-cut line if desired, tie off one end with a bell, and have them string beads up. Be sure to tie off other end when they are finished with a bell so that the beads will stay on.
Now you have some nice beaded garland for your tree that both you and your children will enjoy.
