Getting a tan any other way than by the sun is so much safer but some instant tanning products leave you looking orange or streaked. Spray-on tans are the solution to the problem of finding the perfect tan without the health risks.
Salons charge quite a lot of money to apply the tan which is used like spray paint. The person lies on a table and has one side sprayed. It takes about five minutes for the spray to dry before the other side is done. Having someone else spray the tan on you is a big help since it’s nearly impossible to get perfection while doing it yourself. Difficult areas like the back are best done by someone else but are you willing to pay the extra cost for this service? Of course, the salon attendants are usually professionals who have performed many tanning jobs and you’re likely to be extremely pleased with the outcome. Having the tan re-touched every ten days or so can get very costly.
If you’re someone who prefers more privacy or you simply don’t have time or money for salon appointments you can order the kits and apply your own tan. The tan lasts for ten to fourteen days through swimming and general hygiene like showers and shaving. Exfoliation and moisturizing can have some effect on how long the tan lasts.
The tanning kits are available from a tv advertisement, online or through a catalog and cost between $30 to $40 for a month’s supply. The supply comes with the “gun” that shoots the aerosol. Before applying the tan read all instructions carefully. To make sure you’re not allergic try a small dab in a discreet area.
Twenty minutes after showering and at least thirty minutes before going to bed is the best time to use the spray. Protect the area where you’ll use the solution just as if you were using spray paint. The tanning solution will stain carpet, curtains, clothing and most anything with which it comes in contact. Shake cannister really well and snap it into the gun but don’t push too hard. Hold over a paper towel to prevent the tanning solution from dripping on counters or furniture. Spray the solution as if it were a can of spray paint: keeping a flowing movement but pausing for a moment at the end of each stroke. While applying stop every few strokes and wipe the nozzle to prevent drips.
Some people like an all-over tan whereas others prefer simply to tan their arms and legs. Wear no clothes while spraying the solution or protect your clothing with paper towels. Tuck paper toweling around waistbands and leg openings of underwear to tan legs but not ruin clothing.
Spray a dab of the solution onto the sponges found in the kit for applying tan to face and ears. Avoid palms of hands and bottoms of feet. Reapply the solution after about ten to fourteen days. The spray does not protect you from the sun and contains no sun-blocking ingredients. It isn’t recommended for small children.
