You can make dozens of different types of Halloween costumes for you and for your kids. It only takes a little imagination and some things you probably have around the house already.
You can be a ghost just by using an old white sheet. Cut out two eye holes and place the sheet over your head. This is an old and maybe worn-out idea, so why not jazz it up by wearing white tights or pants underneath the sheet, cover your arms with the sleeves of a white shirt, and maybe carry some chains you can jangle around for a haunting effect as you say your scary boo's.
Or, you can be a scarecrow by wearing some overalls, a plaid shirt, a straw hat and boots. Tie some twine around your middle and place some straw in the neckline of your shirt. You can also tie some straw around each ankle to give the right scarecrow effect. Don't forget to use make up or body paint to do your face up right too.
Or, you can become a black Halloween cat. To do this, simply wear a black, long-sleeved shirt and long pants or tights or leggings. Black shoes or slippers would add to the cat look too. You will then need black gloves or mittens to cover your hands up too. Make a black tail to match the outfit by using a stuffed black sock. Attach it to the back of the pants. You can then make black ears out of cardboard and attach them to a black headband to wear on your head. You can either cover your head with a black ski-type cap or you can simply slick your hair back with hair gel. Don't forget to use the makeup or body paints to give yourself whiskers and a black nose, etc.
Another oldie but goodie is to dress up like a rock star. All you need is a wild wig or you can put lots of mousse or hair color in your hair. Be sure to use hair color that washes out easily. Wear the wildest clothes you can find. If you don't have any wild looking clothes, you can pay a visit to your local Goodwill store or Salvation Army. You will probably find what you need there for very little money. You can carry drum sticks, a fake microphone, or anything else that will give you the look of a rock singer. You can wear any kind of jewelry that you want to, as long as you wear lots of it. And, don't forget to wear some far out shoes and to paint your face to match your wild image.
You can easily look like you are a hippie from the sixties generation by wearing bell bottom pants, a wild looking shirt, preferably one that has flowers on it,or wear a dyed tee shirt. Put sandals on your feet, sunglasses on your face, and maybe a wild, long-haired wig on your head. Beads of assorted colors will help to make the outfit look right. You can also add a floppy hat or tie a hanky around your head. Paint your face up with a goatee if you are a guy. If you are a girl, you can paint flowers on your cheeks.
No matter what you decide to dress up as, or dress your kids up as, you can put together an outfit with things you can easily find. Or, maybe borrow what you need from your friend's attic or a family member's basement.
