BIOGRAPHY
Henryk Adam Alxander Pius Sienkiewicz, recipient of the 1905 Nobel Prize for Literature, was born into a wealthy family in Wola Okrzejska, Poland. He was educated at Warsaw University where he studied law and medicine. He left without a degree. He then worked as a journalist and worked for a succession of newspapers, including GAZETA POLSKA in the United States and SLOWO in Poland.
Sienkiewicz published his first book, NA MARNE (IN VAIN), when he was 26. His best-known novel, QUO VADIS?, was published in 1896.
Henryk Sienkiewicz died in Vevey, Switzerland in 1916.
