Herbs have been used for many years to treat many health problems but have gained great popularity in the past few years as an alternative to drug therepy for a wide variety of illnesses.

Kava-Kava is an herb which is used as a remedy for anxiety, stress, nervousness and insomnia.

Kava-Kava has been shown to relax muscles and calm and relax. Studies have shown that prolonged anxiety can lead to many health problems such as mental fatigue and exhaustion.It is believed that when taken as directed, Kava-Kava is as effective as prescription medications to relieve stress and anxiety. Kava-Kava should not be taken while you are using alcohol or other substances that effect the brain. This herb is not intended for long term use as it can cause a rash and unwanted weight loss. You should always get the advice of your doctor before starting a treatment even with herbs as they can be dangerous when they aren't used properly.

Echinacea is an herb which has been used to treat colds, cough, sore throat and infection.

It is believed that this herb can boost the immune system,giving the body a chance to fight infection.

Echinacea can be taken orally in tablet form or liquid. It can also be made into a tea by crushing the root steeping for ten minutes.

This herb is also not intended for long term use. It should not be taken for longer than six weeks.

Do not take this or any other herb if you are pregnant without the advice of your doctor.

Nightshade is an herb that is a remedy for warts,boils and acne. It can be used externally or taken orally. Studies have shown it to be very effective in the treatment of acne because it dries the skin and keeps bacteria from growing on the skin.

St. John's Wort is one of my favorite herbs.

It has been used to treat depression and anxiety with great sucess. It is known as a mood enhancement herb because it affects the levels of certain chemicals in the brain to maintain a positive outlook. It takes about three to four weeks to notice the full effects of this herb. you need to avoid the sun while taking St. John's Wort as you will sun burn easily. It is not a good idea to treat depression without the advice of a doctor because depression can be very serious if not treated correctly.

Valerian is an herb that is used for insomnia.

It relaxes muscles and helps you to relax so you can get to sleep. It should be taken about half an hour before bedtime. This herb is not intended for long term use because it can cause headaches, restlessness and can cause serious heart problems.

You should not consume alcohol while taking this herb. This herb can be taken in tablet or capsule form or made into a tea. This herb must be stored in a dark container away from light.

Herbs, just like any other medication must be used as directed or they can be very dangerous. Read the label carefully and take only as directed or talk to your family doctor.
