What is Roulette?
The word Roulette originates from the French language and means “small wheel”. Roulette today is one of the more popular casino type table games played in the entire world. Though its appearance is deceiving, roulette is actually an easy game to play and understand and as a family game, at home with gambling for real stakes excluded, it is a lot of fun. It is generally available in smaller home game versions.
Here is a roulette board and wheel setup that is pretty standard as found in America, at least in the casinos. In this setup is the roulette wheel, which is divided up to make 38 slots for the ball to end up in. The slots are all numbered from 00 and 0 to 1 and on through 36. You can bet on any number or combination of numbers on the Roulette wheel. a combination of numbers, You can also play them “red” or “black” or “odd” or “even”.
Real Gambling, real chips.
Now if you are playing and gambling at roulette in a real casino you will play with varied priced “chips”. These will range in price from 2 bucks all the way down to 25 cents. People are known to even bet also bet between $5 and $100 using the more uniform casino chips available in these larger denominations. Chips can be bought in stacks of 20 chips each directly from the dealer. Players can use what are called “cash” chips or colored chips to place bets. Colored chips can only be used at the roulette and only at the table where they were bought. It is recommended that a player use colored chips especially if they plan to bet on several different numbers. With colored chips the player doesn’t have to memorize every bet he has placed because the chip he is using won’t be in use by anyone else. This reduces the chances of someone else claiming your winnings by saying they are the one who bet on that number.
A dealer controls the game’s play. The dealer will spin the Roulette wheel in one direction and then send a ball around its rim in the opposite direction. When the ball falls in among the slots it will usually bounce a while adding excitement as to where it may end up. Eventually the ball does land in and remain in one of these numbered slots. That number is the winner for the game. You can place a bet up until the ball is ready to leave the “track”. At this time the dealer calls "No more bets." The Dealer “marks” the winning number and bets are paid accordingly. Minimum bets are posted at each roulette table. You must bet the minimum. Roulette chips are only good at Roulette tables so you must cash them in at the time you leave the table.
A little about the types of bets.
The types of bets you can make will include just these few. You will want to learn them and their meanings. A straight up is a bet on a single number only. A split is a two number bet. A street is three numbers, corner, four. A six line is obviously six numbers and a dozen, 12. Some other uniquely named bets are a column, high (19 to 36) or low (1 to 18).
