Baking soda is a household staple with many uses. Over the years, this product has become famous for more than just a recipe ingredient. Here are some of the internal and external ways you can use this inexpensive staple:
Baking soda, added to a wet toothbrush, makes a great polishing paste for teeth. It’s slightly abrasive and cleansing properties help remove stains on teeth. You can buy toothpaste that contains this product, or use it from the box for a fraction of the cost.
As an antacid, one half teaspoon in a glass of water helps indigestion and neutralizes excess acid. You should not exceed one dose every 2 hours and limit dosages to those recommended by your doctor. Precautions are on the label of most boxes including warning about giving to children and not adding baking soda if you have an overly full stomach.
And not to forget, it is an essential ingredient for chocolate chip cookies made “from scratch”.
Externally, Baking Soda makes a powerful cleaning paste, which can be used in kitchens and bathrooms to make them shine. Using baking soda in “smelly” areas of the house neutralize odors.
As a laundry aid, One half cup of baking soda added to your wash helps deodorize clothes and leaves them sweet smelling. You can buy detergents that contain the ingredient, or simply add it straight from the box.
As it is so inexpensive, you’ll want a second box to open and place in the refrigerator. After three months, pour it slowly down the drain or garbage disposal to freshen and reduce odors.
For a product that costs so little, and does so much, it makes sense to always keep a couple of boxes in the house.
