Jan Guillou, Swedish writer, was born in Sodertalje, Sweden. He first worked as a journalist before writing novels. He spent ten months in prison for his 1973 article FOLKET I BILD/KULTURFRONT for which he was accused of espionage. The article uncovered illegal activities of Sweden's intelligence service IB.

Guillou published his first book, OM KRIGET KOMMER, when he was 27. He is most famous for his Hamilton series which began with his 1986 novel COQ ROUGE. As a result of this series of spy novels he is the second most financially successful writer in Sweden.
