BIOGRAPHY
Joris Karl Huysmans, writer and art critic, was born in Paris, France. His father was Dutch, and his mother was French. He was educated at the Lycee Saint-Louis. He worked at the Ministry of the Interior for 32 years. He also served in the army during the Franco-Prussian war. He lived near a Benedictine monastery late in life. He was also one of the founders of the Goncourt Academy.
Huysmans pulished his first work, DRAGEROIR AUX EPICED, when he was 26. He was first associated with the naturalist group, but he later joined the French Decadent Movement.
Joris Huysmans died of cancer in 1907.
