Tucked away in a quiet valley in central Pennsylvania lies a whole world of fun and memories. Knoebels Amusement Resort is found in Elysburg right off Route 487, and offers festivity for the entire family.

Parking is free at Knoebels, admission is free, as is entertainment. There is a campground with over 500 sites, each having electric hookups. Cottages are also available to rent. The “Crystal Pool”, which does have a low admission charge, draws many swimmers and sunbathers to Knoebels. There are two giant waterslides within the pool area.

What began the amusement park was the first swimming pool that opened in 1926. That same year also brought into being the first ride, a carousel, as well as a few games and a restaurant.

For roller coaster enthusiasts, “The Phoenix” now housed at Knoebels originally was built for a San Antonio amusement park. Over 3200 feet of track and a thrilling ride have ranked The Phoenix as a top ten roller coaster.

Free entertainment at Knoebels includes music at the bandshell and various kinds of shows (magic, comedy, etc.) at the building called the Roaring Creek Saloon. It only takes on the ambiance of an old-time saloon. No alcoholic beverages, of course, are sold or allowed in the park.

The ride offerings cover a wide range of interests for any age group. There is a “Haunted Mansion” for the fright-lovers, and many rides for thrill-seekers including the coasters. The “Pioneer Train” is a ride through cool woods that the whole family will enjoy. Water rides include the Skloooosh! and the Flume.

Whether a giant ferris wheel or a leisurely ride in an antique car courtesy of the ride called Gasoline Alley, you’re sure to find a ride that will delight.

What would a trip to an amusement park be without the food? In addition to a restaurant called “The Alamo” and an international food court, Knoebels offers all the traditional park foods, including some extras. Fill up on fries, cotton candy, burgers, hot dogs, hot sausage, candy apples, or Knoebels’ award-winning pizza. Apart from what might be thought of as traditional, try the Pennsylvania Dutch favorite treat, a funnel cake. Still hungry? Perhaps a rib sandwich or homemade ice cream will hit the spot?

If shopping is an interest, there are various gift shops within the park, including a Christmas shop. There is a coal mining museum and an open woodworking area. For the gamers, Knoebels has a LazerTag area and an arcade.

Knoebels opens for the season on Memorial Day and closes Labor Day, but prior to, and after these dates, the park is open on weekends only throughout May and September. Tickets are available by book or there are handstamps for certain days/time periods.
