Biography of Miguel Angel Asturias, recipient of the 1967 Nobel Prize for Literature, was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Miguel Angel Asturias, recipient of the 1967 Nobel Prize for Literature, was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He studied law at the University of San Carlos of Guatemala and ethnology at the Sorbonne in Paris. He later helped found the Popular University of Guatemala. He also founded and edited a radio magazine called EL DIARIO DEL AIRE. Asturias served as a Guatemalan diplomat for several years, but he spent much of his life in exile because he opposed the dictatorial ruler.

Asturias published his first major work, LEYENDAS DE GUATEMALA (LEGENDS OF GUATEMALA) in 1930. He is best known for his 1949 novel HOMBRES DE MAIZ (MEN OF MAIZE).

Miguel Angel Asturias died in Madrid, Spain in 1974.
