Minature Christmas village craft

This minature Christmas village project required a lot of attention to detail, but the after effect is well worth the effort.

Items Needed:

Ivory Snow Washing Powder (the powder, not liquid)

Mixer and Mixing bowl

Water

Wood Spoon

Little Houses or villages

Miniature trees

Mirror (for lake)

Miniature figurines (people, animals, sleds, snowman, etc.)

String of Lights (white)

Square or Rectangle piece of Styrofoam

(Size of Styrofoam determines the size of your village)

Directions:

Pour washing powder into mixing bowl and add water. Now, the amount of powder that you use will depend on the size of your Styrofoam. So, if you are using a small piece, say about 2ft x 2ft, start with about 4 cups of powder. Mix water in and whip until soft peaks form. If you are using a larger piece of Styrofoam or need more "snow," go ahead and use the batch that you have already made before it hardens.

Take your wood spoon and pour mixture over Styrofoam. Use spoon to spread. You do not want the mixture to all be even. The idea is for this to resemble freshly fallen snow, which means that some snowbanks and uneven texture is allowed. However, you do want the entire top and sides covered with mixture. So, if you need more snow, simply repeat above procedure until base is covered in its entirety.

While snow is still soft, go ahead and place your lights in and around snow. Take snow and cover cord, especially if it is green. You do not want it to show. The lights will not catch scenery on fire.

Next, take your mirror and place somewhere on the snow for a lake. Then take your house and other miniatures and place them all around the snow, creating your own little village. Place some trees around the lake, maybe a sled and kid or dog on the lake, a lamp post by the church, a bench for sitting on, and the list goes on and on.

This is your village; you create it any way that you want to.

At the end of the Christmas Season, simply wrap scenery up in a plastic bag and store it away for next year.

If scenery snow happens to turn yellow over time, simply apply new snow to the top of the snow.

I hope you have fun making this craft. Let your children help. The whole family will have lots of fun and you will have many memories.
