The Cleveland Metropark Zoo and Rain Forest

The Cleveland Metropark Zoo and Rain Forest are one of the more interesting places to go in North East Ohio.. This Zoo is the 7th oldest zoo in the world, but since they've done so much renovating and built so many new exhibits the past 10 years, you'd think it was the newest zoo. The Zoo has plenty of outdoor and indoor exhibits ranging from Aardvarks to Zebras to all the different birds of the world.

They're always expanding the zoo. a couple years ago they added the Wolf Wilderness exhibit. It's an indoor/outdoor exhibit where you can observe wolves in their natural environment. .

The Rain Forest is a big indoor exhibit where they keep the climate the same as in a rain forest so, the plants and wild life can survive year round. It's so well designed, you'll think you're really in an actual rain forest.

The Great Lakes Science Center

If you've never touched a tornado then you are in luck. You will get to do that, along with many other interesting things when you visit the Great Lakes Science Center. When you go here, make sure you get there real early, because you'll want to spend the whole day there. With so much to see and do, you'll be having the time of your life playing with your kids and doing the really cool experiments with them. Here's just a few of the highlights of the museum.

The Indoor Tornado

This exhibit stands more than eight feet tall and simulates an actual tornado right before your eyes. You can even reach out and touch the tornado! This exhibit is one that you will want to spend a lot of time watching, because it's so fascinating.

The Bridge of Fire

This is another "must see" exhibit. You step up on the bridge, and then a static electricity generator creates 200,000 volts of electricity, causing your hair to stand on end. It sounds like a lot of electricity, but it's not painful or anything. It's just really fun to watch your hair in the mirror that's on the other side.

The Omnimax Theater

The Omnimax is a six story domed theater, that surrounds you with incredibly large life like images and 11,600 watts of digital sound. You will feel like you're in the movie. A word to the wise, if you get motion sickness easily, you may have to close your eyes every so often, or you'll wind up very queasy. This is a museum that you will not soon forget. You'll want to return again and again, because they're always adding more exhibits all the time. The Science center is located right next to the Rock Hall on Cleveland's North Coast Harbor.
