Pregnancy and insomnia: sleep may seem elusive during the last months of pregnancy. Use some or all of these techniques you can get some rest.

During the last few months of pregnancy, our bodies make it difficult to sleep. A combination of our hormones, our physical nature, and our jitters makes it difficult. Here are some suggestions on how to get a good night's rest during pregnancy.

Invest in a wedge or pregnancy pillow. This will support your belly while you sleep. This lowers the chance of your waking up to painful ribs or back in the middle of the night. You can also, use this as a pillow to support your baby if you decide to breastfeed. You can also use an extra pillow to support your belly. Putting a pillow between your legs may also be helpful.

Invest in a mattress pad. You may find that your bed becomes uncomfortable during pregnancy. Try an egg crate mattress or down mattress. This is worth the investment for a good night's sleep.

You may find that you will sleep better if you elevate your head while you sleep. This will prevent heartburn during the night and improve your breathing. It will also help your stuffy nose.

Lay on your side in a fetal position. This improves the blood flow through your body allowing you to become more comfortable.

If frequent urination is a problem, try to cut back on the liquids at night.

Wear comfortable clothing. Invest in an expensive nightgown that feels nice.

Keep the temperature of the room around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the optimum temperature that will help you fall asleep quicker.

If you are having persistent dreams, talk about them. By talking about them it will help get rid of the jitters that are causing the dream.

Apply lotion to your stomach before sleeping. This will prevent and relieve an itchy belly during the night.

Drink some chamomile tea. This will allow you to unwind after your day. It is safe for use during pregnancy.
