Heart disease is the number one cause of death each year in America, taking more than nine hundred and fifty thousand lives per year. There are many heart diseases that cause death, heart attacks is the number one reason followed closely by strokes. There are many other heart diseases such as cardiac arrhythmias, high blood pressure, congestive failure, congenital defects and other heart disorders that account for many deaths. The American Heart Association states that according to researchers that more than sixty million American have some form of cardiovascular disease. Researchers have studied many test and came up with the conclusion of some risk factors for heart disease. Some of these factors are uncontrollable and others we can control. Uncontrollable factors are heredity, age and gender. The risk factors that are controllable include smoking and poor diet.
Researchers have figured out if the diet can cause many heart diseases, then the diet can play a role in decreasing the odds of getting heart disease. To ward off heart disease, carbohydrates are especially needed in the diet. Foods like pasta, rice, potatoes, beans and breads and cereals, and plenty of fruits and vegetables will provide a healthy diet in preventing heart disease.
There has been a question of wine preventing heart disease and other major diseases within the body for years. Researchers have come to the conclusion that wine has plenty of bioflavonoids, which can be found in grapes. Wine not only helps prevent against cancer; it also prevents against inflammation, allergic reactions and helps with the blood clotting system. This explains the reason wine drinkers have a reduced risk of heart attacks.
Doctors and researchers alike have been studying through the years to determine what is needed in a diet to properly decrease the chances of heart disease. They have found that an ample supply of vitamin C, beta-carotene, and other antioxidants that can be found in fruits and vegetables need to be a major part of the diet. They seem to believe that vitamin E plays a healthy role also, foods that are high in vitamin E are eggs, wheat germ, fortified cereals, nuts and seeds.
