BIOGRAPHY
Ross Macdonald, mystery writer, was born in Los Gatos, California. His birth name was Kenneth Millar. His father left when he was young, and he was reared in Canada by his mother. He was educated at the University of Western Ontario, the University of Toronto, and the Universtiy of Michigan. He taught at the University of Michigan and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
Macdonald's first novel, THE DARK TUNNEL, was published when he was 29. He is most famous for the series of novels which features the character Lew Archer. The first of the series, THE MOVING TARGET, appeared in 1949.
Ross Macdonald died of Alzheimers in California in 1983.
