Being able to be a stay at home mom is the dream of many women. However, many women work full work weeks and send their children to some form of child care. There are many factors to consider when deciding to be a stay at home mom.

The most obvious thing is the income. Can your family afford to lose your contribution? Most would answer a resounding "no" to this question, after all, why else would you be struggling with the decision in the first place? There are many things to ask yourself.

How much money are you bringing home and is it worth it to not being raising your child first-hand? Many people find upon figuring in the cost of childcare, they are not actually clearing as much money as it is worth. The other things to factor in is the cost of gas to commute to work, the cost of clothing to be properly dressed for your job and the cost of food. Many people do not take the time to pack an inexpensive lunch, they usually end up spending quite a lot on eating out daily.

These are all things to take into perspective if you are not making a substantial salary, however, if you are the sole bread-winner then it is not out of the question in this decade to consider your spouse to stay at home. Many women are happy with their jobs outside the home, as well they should be, however the stay at home mom has the peace of mind to know that their child is being reared with their values and beliefs.

Once you have determined the cost of paying someone else to care for your child and the expenses of working, you may find that even though still ahead financially, it is not worth it to your family. The satisfaction of raising your own child is enough for many women to make the decision to be a single family income. Most would tell you the sacrifices are worth the rewards.
