Directions:

Visit local craft store and purchase a burlap sack. They usually cost around $2.00 or $3.00 dollars.

However, if you farm, you can use one of your own burlap sacks.

Wash sack in washing machine with some fabric stiffener.

Line a work area or table with newspaper. Place an old cookie sheet on top of paper.

Take burlap sack out of washing machine immediately when finished with both the rinse and spin cycle.

Place burlap sack upright on cookie sheet. Take both of your hands and open bag up so it will form a square. (You might need to set some type of heavy object, like a pan, in the bottom of the bag to keep it setting up straight and not falling over.)

Allow burlap sack to dry overnight. Once burlap sack has dried completely, it is ready to fill with goodies. You can place presents inside bag, give as gifts, hang on rack for stockings or just set it by the fireplace for holding kindling or other items.

However, if your burlap sack needs some more pizzazz, here are some other ideas for decorating and using your sack.

When following these directions, you do not need to use fabric stiffener.

Take sack and place flat on table. If you are ironing on a design, place design over area which you desire and apply using a hot iron according to directions listed on the appliqué'.

If you are using a stencil, place stencil over area desired. Then take paint or glitter glue pens and trace the inside of the stencil. Let paint or glue dry thoroughly before using.

Once the paint or glue has dried, you can take your paintbrush and paint the inside of the designs. Allow paint to dry completely.

Once paint has dried, take a clear glue stick and apply over the entire stenciled and painted area. Then take a pinch of glitter and sprinkle over entire area.

You may also take some Multi-color yarn, and sew individual names onto the tops of the sacks. However, it is a whole lot easier to paint their names on rather than sewing.

You can also paint or sew on greetings. In order to achieve a more aggressive design; apply buttons, sequins, bells, bows, and any other embellishment that you desire.

Once you have designed your stocking, fill it full of goodies and hang from a nail or mantle. The sack has a string at the top to seel the bag up and prevent items from spilling out.

This is sure to be a treat for your kids, family, and friends.

It is also a fun project for the entire family, so do not be afraid to let your children help.
