So there you are, sitting in your car at yet another dance, soccer, swim, baseball or other practice, school pickup time or other event, waiting and waiting and waiting for your children. What are some easy activities for you to use that time constructively?
Read – read the newspaper, a favorite book, a self-help manual anything. Books are easy to keep in the car so you’ll always have “something” to keep you occupied.
Plan meal menus for your family – quick, easy to complete plus it’s a great time saver during the week.
Listen to books on tape, use the time to study a foreign language. For goodness sake, use that cassette player.
Listen to the radio, catch up on the news or radio talk shows.
Clean the garbage out of the car. You’d be amazed at how much you can reach from the driver’s seat!
Balance your checkbook. Okay…not a favorite, but at least it gets it done.
Write a “real” letter. You know the ones where you use paper, pen, envelope and a real stamp.
Write in your daily journal. It you are always waiting at the same time of day this makes a great way to keep track of your life on a daily basis.
Meditate – Just kick back and let your mind rest for awhile.
Plan your next party. Be it a dinner party, birthday party or whatever. Jot down ideas, menus, guest lists, etc.
If you have other children in the car with you have them bring their homework then you can make sure they get it done.
Talk with and listen to your children. Talk about their day, their friends, their ideas, their feelings, their dreams, but talk and really listen to them.
Keep a phone book in your car and use your cell phone to make appointments that you never seem to get around to making at home.
Write a love letter to your spouse or “significant” other.
Use your laptop computer
Pay bills. Okay, this one ranks right up there with balancing the checkbook.
Plan your spring/fall garden.
Browse all those catalogs you get and never seem to get a chance to look through them.
Eat a healthy snack and drink your daily water requirements.
Count your blessings.
Above all, enjoy your children. They’re only young once!
