Wedding showers are a perfect way for family members from both the bride’s and the groom’s sides to meet. Good food, good conversation, and some friendly games to break the ice, are all excellent choices for the next wedding shower you throw, to help make it a big hit. If you are stumped for games to play, or are looking for some new ideas, here are a few to get you started.

The last game of the shower should be ‘Door Prize Give Away’. How can you make this helpful to the bride at the same time? As everyone arrives, have them each fill out an envelope with their name and address. Drop these in a basket to draw a winner from at the end of the shower. The bride also wins by now having all her thank you envelopes pre-addressed!

Cotton Ball Pickup

Materials Needed:

Bag of cotton-balls

Blindfold

Large plastic spoon

Large plastic bowl

After cotton-balls are dumped out and spread around on floor, each person takes a turn at being blindfolded. With spoon in one hand and bowl in the other, time them 45 seconds, and see how many cotton-balls they can pick up with the spoon and place in bowl.

Do You Remember!

The bride needs to be in on this one. After the shower has started, have her excuse herself to the restroom or to another room to make a telephone call, etc. At this point, she should change a few items of jewelry and clothing. Different shoes, earrings, from nylon to socks, add lipstick or take it off, etc. These should just be some simple alterations, nothing too easy to spot! When she reenters room, then tell everyone that she has made a few changes. Give them 30 seconds to look at the bride and see if they can tell what is different. Have her again leave the room. Allow everyone 60 seconds to write down what they think was different about her. The one with the most right wins a prize.

Send Them a Message

This game is unique, in that no matter how many times you play this at a shower, each time it is different. With the bride and groom’s first names, use each letter to start a word, spelling out a message to the couple. Winner is decided by vote. Let us look at an example of this, using the names Mary and Tim for the intended couple:

May All Remember You Together In Memory

Some will come up with sentimental sayings, others silly, and some total nonsense. What if the groom’s name was Tom? This could translate into:

May All Remember You Together On Mars

See how a single name can change the whole thing!

A variation on this name game is to see how many words you can come up with only using the letters in their first names.

Once you have the games to play, what should you use for prizes? Depending on the shower, they can be as elaborate or as simple as you like. A gift certificate to a bath store or restaurant is a perfect choice for the door prize, or a basket of goodies! Individual game winners can be rewarded with scented soaps and candles, kitchen gadgets, stationary set, flavored coffees in mugs, teas in mugs, even boxes of candy. Think usable and everyone will enjoy winning!
