You’ve undoubtedly heard about Whistler Mountain located in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. Year after year it’s reputation as a world-class resort increases as more people find out about this jewel tucked in the mountains, 7,160 feet high into the air.
Although this is a year round resort, the majority of people come here for the skiing. You have a choice of two majestic mountains to ski to your heart’s desire. Whistler Mountain boasts 3,657 acres of terrain. There are sixteen lifts total including two high-speed gondolas. The longest run is an astonishing seven miles and there are also separate snowboarding facilities. Neighboring Blackcomb Mountain in no way takes a back seat to Whistler. It’s top elevation is 7,494 feet with 3,414 acres of groomed snow and provides seventeen lifts for your pleasure. It’s longest run is also seven miles and it is a snowboarder’s paradise.
So you’re not an avid skier, that doesn’t mean that Whistler Mountain has nothing to offer you! Horse-drawn sleigh rides will carry you on a scenic journey along snow-covered trails leading up to a cabin. There you can enjoy a hot beverage and be unforgettably entertained. The Meadow Park Sports Centre provides an ice rink where you can practice your figure eights and on the other side of the center you can take a dip in their child-friendly pool.
If tennis is your game and you think there’s no way you’ll be able to play on the top of a world-class mountain, you’re wrong! The Delta Whistler Resort and The Whistler Racquet and Golf Resort both host indoor tennis courts that will keep your game in shape even if there’s seven feet of snow outside. Want to take it easy but keep out of the cold? Whistler’s Public Library provides a great selection of books and comfortable seating to while away the hours.
If the library is too quiet for you, head over to Whistler’s Museum and Archives. There you will find world champion skier Steve Podborski’s 1982 World Cup and catch a glimpse of his Olympic Bronze medal which he won at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. As a matter of fact, Whistler Mountain in home to many colorful art galleries that feature local artists’ world class works. Select a piece to take home as a reminder of your wonderful trip. Wanna catch a flick? The Rainbow Theatre is located in the Conference Centre and shows first-run movies.
