Angel Ganivet Y Garcia, novelist and essayist, was born in Granada, Spain. He was one of five children born to Angeles Garcia de Lara y Siles. His father committed suicide when he was ten. He was educated at the Institute of Granada and the University of Granada where he studied law. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Madrid. Garcia served for many years with the Spanish consular service beginning in 1892.
Ganivet's first work, GRANADA LA BELLA, was published when he was 31. He is best known for IDEARUM ESPANOL which was published in 1896. Several of his works appeared posthumouly.
Angle Ganivet committed suicide by drowning himself in 1898.
