When trying to decide on an appropriate flower arrangement for a wedding it is best to consult an expert. As Nancy Wharton, who has been in business for twenty-six years and is the founder and owner of Casa Verde Florist in Austin, Texas, says, "Weddings are big. Usually for wedding arrangements, people need to set an appointment with their florist. They need to go over all the items they will need, so that everything is coordinated."
When it comes to what a standard wedding usually needs in terms of flower arrangements, Nancy says, "If it's a wedding, generally what is needed is the bouquet for the bride and bridesmaids and the boutonnieres for the groom and the groom's men. The father, grandfather, and brother usually have boutonnieres as well. They can be single flowers or multiple flowers. In the same way, the bouquet can be one flower or multiple flowers. We have seen the bride carry one orchid with streamers flowing around it. The mother, grandmothers, and all the other women that are involved also need to have a corsage. Then, you have the church pieces and the cake-type arrangements." And these are just a few examples of what most weddings entail. Usually, the larger and more elaborate the wedding is, the more elaborate and plentiful the floral arrangements become as well. A simpler setting can also be made to look very sophisticated and romantic with the use of the right floral arrangements.
Some examples of sleek and simple table arrangements would be crystal vases lined up down the center of the table with a single flower placed in each one. In this way, the budget can be stretched to accommodate even the more expensive of a bride's favorite flowers, such as roses or one of an exotic variety. This idea can be taken in many different directions, alternating flowers as you wish or utilizing different containers to hold them.
Nancy says a lot of people are even using petals on their tables. These can be spread around the centerpieces and candles, or with the right embellishments such as stones or crystals could be used as the centerpieces themselves.
Choosing the right flowers to use will be based on the colors of your wedding and any "theme" it might have among other factors such as the space available, your budget, etc. In order to start getting some ideas, Nancy says, "There are many books available on how to plan weddings. And we suggest the person come in and look at the florist's materials." The florist will have access to resources that may be difficult to find somewhere else or not be available to you at all. It is best that you come with at least an idea of what you are looking for in terms of the colors and theme of your wedding, as well as knowing what portion of your budget that you can spend on flowers. This will make it easier for the florist to be able to show you the options that fit into your plans, right from the beginning.
