I don't think that there is any documented evidence on that, although I think Dr. Alan Hirsch from Chicago has done a lot of work on it. He has written a book that suggests smelling something before you eat, but I don't think there is any definitive proof on it. I have always told people to pair a feeling with the oil. A feeling of satisfaction or being full could be paired with a scent so that when you have that lack of will power you sniff the scent to bring you back to that place of power and push yourself away from the table. It's just a mental thing and a will power thing.
