Practice and don't give up. Making candles is just like learning anything else. Don't give yourself a time limit. Do it when you are relaxed. It's really fun to experiment with, all the different colors and scents. Not all your experiments will come out good. Don't expect perfection each time; its just like any new craft or hobby that you pick up with a little bit of a learning curve.

Q: Any tips when buying wicks for candles?

A: The wick needs to match the size of the jar or the size of the candle that you are making. If the wick is too large, the candle will create a big flame, and it will smoke. If the wick is too small, it will burn out and the candle may tunnel down the center. It is very frustrating when you have a candle that burns straight down the center and all around the sides of the jar. Basically, match your wicks up to the diameter of the candles that you are making. There are always recommendations on what type of wick to use with every candle you make. Follow the manufactures recommendation or the distributors recommendations for the wicks.

Q: Any advice for spilled wax and how to remove it?

A: Let it get hard. Wait until it cools, and then scrape it off with a kitchen scraper. After that, wipe it up. I like orange oil cleaner that works very good.

On carpet, that's a little more difficult. Wait until it gets hard and then you can use an ice cube or an ice pack to get the carpet real cold. From there, a lot of it will crumble up, and you can vacuum it up. Use the same procedure, if it falls on your clothes.
