Small at-home businesses are very common because they reduce the overhead costs.

I would say that home based businesses are very, very popular in this country. Home based businesses in the advent of computers and faxes have presented entrepreneurs with a multitude of options on how they want to conduct business. Many small businesses are sole proprietorships out of their home or may be a second revenue stream. Working out of the home is a way of minimizing your overhead costs. There are also tax benefits from working out of your home. So lots of people do it and its great for mothers with children at home, and it's an advantage for people who don't have transportation to go places. A lot of home based businesses do all their business on the web for example.
