How do you care for baby skin?

Baby skin care tips on the use of suncreens, soaps, and moisturizers for newborns.

You have to realize that baby skin is still developing as the baby is born, so you should avoid a lot of strong soaps and cleaning products. They don't need it. They need simple bathing, rinsing the soap off totally, again using a light moisturizing preparation. You should avoid, particularly in the early part of life, putting a lot of different chemicals on the skin. The baby's skin, particularly during the first three months or so of life, has not build up the barrier membrane. They will develop this later on. So the skin will absorb chemicals on the skin a lot more. For instance, I really don't recommend using things like sunscreens on a baby younger than six months because some of those chemicals in the sunscreens can be absorbed more so than in an adult's skin. I think less is better on a baby's skin.
