"When we say crystal often we think of a very fine traditional cup that doesn't go into a dishwasher," says Timothy J. Carder, vice president of design at Lenox, Inc. in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
"Those item] should really be hand washed, but then there are other types of glass products that we make at Lenox, more casual lines, and they are suitable for dishwashing because they are made of material which is a bit more resilient."
Some selections that are dishwasher safe include Butterfly Meadow® Acrylic Highball glasses and Pitchers, which display a butterfly decoration by artist Louise Le Luyer, and the Color, All-Purpose Glasses that are especially sturdy and designed for practicality.
Any of these items could be taken on a picnic, used for an outside gathering or be incorporated into everyday meals in the home. The benefit of these items is that the Lenox quality is still maintained, but the less-expensive materials used to create them allow for more affordable collections.
Carder says, "Generally if you are buying a crystal product that is for everyday use, you can probably assume that everyday handling would be fine."
