We are 340 miles from the exact center of the country. We are actually closer to the center than any other major city. We have always been identified with the west because Denver was a gateway to the west and most of the western history in America didn't really take place in the west. What we call western was really more in the center of the country.
But we are about 650 miles from any other city, and we are right at the foot of the biggest chain of mountains that crosses North America. If you follow the Rocky Mountains from Canada all the way into the center of Mexico, the highest, steepest, most impenetrable part of the mountain chain is just west of Denver. So we are in a truly spectacular location.
