What is dermatitis?

Dermatitis and eczema are inflammations of the skin that are usually found in families with a history of allergies and asthma.

Eczema and dermatitis are both general terms for an inflammation of the skin. They are used interchangeably. There is a hereditary form of eczema called atopic dermatitis which is usually found in individuals who have a personal or family history of allergies and asthma. There is also a non-hereditary form that's usually caused by either an allergic reaction or an irritant that's not a true allergy.
